Warren Spector, Vice President and Creative Director at Disney Interactive, sat down with the team from gameindustry.biz to discuss not only winning the Lifetime Achievement Award, but also discussing the “epic” development of Epic Mickey 2, the sequel to the successful and dark Wii title.
Interestingly enough, Spector gave some insight on how massive the development of Mickey 2 is compared to both the original, and other massive titles that everyone knows and loves.
“With Mickey 1, we built a team – we went from 13 people to about 180″, Spector said. “We have over 700 people around the world working on our new game now.”
To put this in perspective, around 200 people worked on Modern Warfare 3 and around 600 are working on Resident Evil 6, according to xbigygames.com.
Mickey 2 is expected to be another major project for Disney, according to Spector, who spoke about details concerning improvements from the original game including camera work, new voice acting, accessibility and co-operative gameplay.
“It did exceptionally well for Disney. It was the best-selling single-platform game the company has ever done,” said Spector. 2 million copies of the game were sold in North America and Europe, and of those sold, more than 1.2 million were sold primarily in the U.S.
According to an article on thetanooki.com, fans of the original game won’t have to wait too long to find out more about the sequel. Warren Spector and Disney France are expected to reveal some more juicy information on the title by the end of this month, March 27th to be exact.
Rumors have also been going around that the title will span all three home consoles (PS3, 360, Wii), as opposed to the original which was only available for the Wii.
However, the article itself is already a week and a half old, so take any of those rumors with a grain of salt, or go hunting for your own research on the subject.
