A new trailer was posted on Wednesday that confirms the independent Toronto-based game developers Spooky Squid Games are moving their latest project, They Bleed Pixels, to be released on the Steam PC shop, according to a press release.
Originally planned for Xbox Live Indie Games, the game is set for release sometime this summer, according to TheyBleedPixels.com. The game was originally planned for release last summer, but the developers took an extra year to do polishing, create additional levels and add Steamworks features including leaderboards, achievements and cloud saving.
Miguel Sternberg, Creative Director at Spooky Squid Games said this in a press release,
“We’re extremely happy to be bringing They Bleed Pixels to Steam. Throughout development other game developers and players have told us that the game really deserves to reach a larger audience and the move to PC and Steam will do just that.”
They Bleed Pixels blends pixel art with paper and ink textures, and mixes intense platforming and fierce beat-em-up action. The game tells the story of a young girl haunted by a mysterious book and her violent Lovecraftian nightmares. The game features a surprisingly robust one button combat system and a mid-level save system that requires players to pull off stylish kills in order to earn and place checkpoints, according to their website.
Also some interesting tidbits, the music for the game features original electronic music by DJ Finish Him; and if that name is not familiar, then maybe his Electric Playground/Reviews on the Run alias Shaun Hatton might be more familiar.
Sternberg said that a confirmed release date will be arriving soon, and that fans will appreciate the extra time put into the game,
“For those waiting for the release date we’re very close to being able to announce it. We’re just finishing up sound and squashing a few pesky bugs. It’s been a busy year and I think players will really appreciate the additional content and polish.”
